Are You Procrastinating Your Sleep? Here's What You Need to Know

Do you often stay up all night letting time fly by? We've all done it at some point to buy back time for ourselves. Yet, did you know that this has an official name and can affect our sleep? It's called revenge bedtime procrastination (BRBP).

What is Revenge Bedtime Procrastination?
Revenge bedtime procrastination is a term used to describe the tendency to stay up late at night as a way of buying back time for being busy or stressful. Whatever the reason, bedtime procrastination is a habit that can lead to sleep deprivation, which can have negative consequences, including an increased risk of accidents, and a decrease in productivity and mood. However, to improve your sleep habits and get the rest you need there are a variety of ways to help you.

How to Combat Bedtime Procrastination

- Establish a regular sleep schedule and stick to it as much as possible, even on weekends. This will help to regulate your body's natural sleep-wake cycle.
Identify your triggers. What are the things that make you most likely to procrastinate in bed? Once you know your triggers, you can start to develop strategies for avoiding them.

- Create a relaxing bedtime routine. This could include taking a warm bath, reading a book, or listening to calming music.

- Get regular exercise, but not too close to bedtime. Exercise can help you sleep better, but it's important not to overdo it too close to bedtime.

- See a doctor if you have trouble sleeping. There may be an underlying medical condition that is interfering with your sleep.

    Re-decorate Your Bedroom Space
If you find yourself feeling restless or bored at bedtime, another way to relax could be by making your bedroom a sanctuary. If you find a correlation between your bedtime procrastination triggers and your space, it may be worthwhile to re-decorate your bedroom to help with sleep and make it easier to wind down at night.

Here are a couple of ways:

    - Use blackout curtains or blinds to block out light. Light can interfere with sleep, so it's important to make sure your bedroom is dark at night.

    - Keep your bedroom cool and quiet. Temperature and noise can also interfere with sleep, so make sure your bedroom is comfortable and quiet. If you live in tropical climates, consider adding cotton bed sheets to wick away the moisture, or if in colder environments, a comfy comforter that keeps you warm with breathable texture may be fit for you.

    - Get rid of clutter. Clutter can be stimulating and make it difficult to relax. Get rid of any unnecessary clutter in your bedroom to create a more peaceful environment

    - Decorate with calming colors. The colors in your bedroom can have an impact on your sleep. Choose calming colors, such as blues, greens, or whites, to help you relax and fall asleep.

As with any changes, patience and consistency is key. Breaking the habit of bed procrastination takes time and effort. Don't get discouraged if you slip up occasionally. Just keep trying and eventually you will succeed.

Enhancing our quality of sleep has great benefits for us such as better memory retention, reducing stress and improving your mood, and having a healthier lifestyle. At CGK Linens we want to provide you with affordable luxury bed sheets where each night’s rest leaves you in a comfy bliss to wake up.
